Sunset Beach was established as a town on September 8, 1904. A part of Orange County in California, the town is still
governed by the County Supervisors as an unincorporated area of the county.
Sunset Beach is about a mile and a half long, beginning at Anderson Street to the north and ending at Warner Avenue
to the south. Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) runs through the middle of Sunset Beach with businesses on both sides of the
highway. There is North and South Pacific Avenue, numbered streets to the west of PCH, and most of Sunset Island and
Park Avenue to the east. The main street for the island is Bayview Drive and Park Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets on
the island side of PCH.

Local Calendar
A local calendar is displayed on the Post Office bulletin board. It is a good idea to check it regularly as it changes each month.
Coming events
and meetings are posted there. Also posted are the minutes from the Sunset Beach Community Association (SBCA) and the
Sanitary Board meetings.
Garbage Collection
Trash is picked up Mondays & Fridays by Rainbow Disposal. You must use the special trash cans provided by Rainbow Disposal otherwise your
trash will not be picked up (if you have any questions please call Rainbow directly at 714-847-3581). You do not have to separate your trash as
Rainbow recycles our trash at their plant. Trash cans should be brought in off the streets and alleys after the trash collection is completed. Trash
cans should have lids. Rainbow also has a pickup for large items such as refrigerators, stoves, water heaters, etc. Please call
Rainbow to make pick-up arrangements.
Mail
We all get our mail at our Post Office, located between 10th and 11th Streets on PCH. We do not have mail delivery. The Post
Office hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. You can pick your mail up on Saturdays but the window is closed.
We have excellent people working in our Post Office and we receive wonderful service.
Street Sweeping
Street sweeping is on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Cars may not park behind garages
on any streets, street ends, or alleys during these hours otherwise they will be ticketed by the Sheriff. You may park on the
Green Belt parking and on PCH.
Fire Department
The Sunset Beach Fire Department has been a volunteer organization for the past 50 plus years. Our volunteers are all trained
personnel and are usually the "first in response" for Sunset Beach. They are backed up by paramedics with
other fire fighting equipment from Huntington Beach or Seal Beach. All county fire departments are under the command of
the Orange County Fire Authority. We have a fire siren that rings four times to let people know there is a call. The siren, however,
does not go off before 8:00 AM nor after 8:00 PM. Our firemen are notified by the pagers they carry, as well as the siren.
Sheriff's Department
The Sheriff's Department is our local law enforcement agency. We usually have at least one sheriff in town most of the time. We also
have the California Highway Patrol for traffic enforcement along with the Huntington Beach and Seal Beach Police whose units
travel through Sunset Beach as backups. We are well represented by the law.
Sanitary District
We have our own Sanitary District which is paid for by our property taxes. It is the best run Sanitary District in Orange County.
The Sanitary District encompasses Surfside as well as Sunset Beach. They have meetings on the 2nd Thursday of each month
at 7:00 PM at the Women's Club on Bayview Drive and Broadway. The meetings are open to all.
Community Center
The Community Center is next to our Fire Station on 12th Street. We own this lot and it is for everyone's use. This is where we
hold most of our community events. There is a
basketball court as well as a kitchen. Use of the kitchen is only allowed with the permission of the SBCA. There is a charge
for using the center for personal events. Earthquake supplies are stored on this lot in case of an emergency. The center
is the place you should go to in an emergency. The rules governing the lot are posted on the fence. Please obey them.
Some important rules every Sunset Beach resident or visitor should observe...
- Observe beach regulation signs posted at street ends, which list no drinking on the beach, no open fires and no dogs.
- Permit parking is only on North and South Pacific Avenues. Permits can be obtained by calling "Parking Permits"
located on back. You can only park in front of your garage.
- No overnight parking on Pacific Coast Highway.
- No overnight RV parking on the Green Belt.
- Always pick-up after your dog.
- No unleashed dogs allowed.
